COWEN- The Greenbrier West Cavaliers cross country team made the trip to compete in the Big Ditch Lake Invitational, testing their endurance and teamwork against a strong field of runners from across the region.
The course at Big Ditch Lake is known for its challenging terrain and rolling hills, and the Cavaliers showed determination throughout the day.
Each runner pushed hard from start to finish, continuing to build on the momentum they’ve carried through the early part of the season. Runners Jesse Walkup (2nd), Elijah Russell (5th), and Dominic Mandeville (13th) finished in the top 15 as well as Gabriel Keaton, completing the race with a little extra road under him, after getting misdirected.
Head Coach Walkup praised the team’s effort, noting how the Cavaliers continue to grow stronger with each meet.
“The athletes gave it everything they had on a tough course,” the coach said.
“They’re learning to race smart, stay consistent, and push through when it gets difficult.”
The Cavaliers’ performance at Big Ditch Lake marks another important step in their season as they prepare for upcoming meets, with runners focused on shaving down times and chasing new personal records. Greenbrier West will return to action next week to compete in Summersville on Tuesday and look to be ready to carry the energy and experience from Big Ditch Lake into their next competition.
