CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WVDN) – State Treasurer Larry Pack today presented an unclaimed property check valued at more than $27,000 to the City of Charleston.
“My Office is thrilled to reunite the City of Charleston with these lost funds. Our local governments need all the help they can get so they can continue to serve their communities,” Treasurer Pack said. “The money came from miscellaneous checks after a search of my Office’s Unclaimed Property online database. I encourage everyone to check out our website, www.WVUnclaimedProperty.gov, to see if my Office is holding any money for you or your family.”
Treasurer Pack presented a check worth $27,158.35 to Charleston Mayor Amy Shuler Goodwin at Charleston City Hall on Monday afternoon. Mayor Goodwin said the funds will go towards new park equipment in Kanawha City and North Charleston.
“These unclaimed property dollars provide us the opportunity to invest in our city—strengthening programs and services in our neighborhoods,” Mayor Amy Shuler Goodwin said. “Pending Council approval, we plan to use these funds for parks and recreation facility upgrades—improvements that create welcoming spaces, encourage healthy activity, and foster connections among our residents.”
Treasurer Pack recently announced his Office’s Unclaimed Property Division returned more than $1.2 million to individuals, businesses and organizations in West Virginia during the month of August.
The State Treasurer’s Office has more than $473 million worth of listings in its database.
