WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS- The Battle for the Springhouse, the high school tournament played in Colonial Hall at the Greenbrier, recently finalized their boy’s division and announced the teams that will be playing on January 30-31, 2026.
The Greenbrier East Spartans, the local school, will be back and making their fourth appearance in four years of the tournament. Last season, the Spartans were one game away from a state tournament appearance and finished the regular season winning seven of their last eight games. East returns a plethora of talent after losing just two seniors and are adding a Virginia transfer as well that could make them a dark horse candidate for some postseason hardware.
The 2025 Class AAA state champion Bridgeport Indians are going to make their first trip to the Greenbrier. Head coach Dave Marshall’s crew went 26-1 last season and return a lot of production from that title winning team including Anderson McDougal and Gavin Williams.
The James Monroe Mavericks were announced to be participating as well. The Mavericks have a long history of a good program and won back-to-back state titles in 2022 and 23. Last year, they went 19-3 and made it all the way to the regional semifinals of the state tournament.
Kent McBride’s Wyoming East Warriors round out the tournament participants. The Warriors advanced to the Class AA state semis a year ago and finished 19-4. Like James Monroe, they have a history of a traditionally strong program.
