ATHENS W.Va. (WVDN) – Concord University’s annual Constitution Day celebration will feature an address by Billy Wolfe, director of communications for the West Virginia chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union. Wolfe will present “The American Civil Liberties Union: A Century of Defending Democracy” in the Wilkes Family Chapel at University Point, in the event’s first live, in-person program since the COVID pandemic in 2020.
The program, hosted by CU’s chapter of Pi Sigma Alpha National Political Science Honor Society, will begin Tuesday, Sept. 16, 2025, at 7 p.m. Wolfe has worked with the ACLU of West Virginia since 2019. He also has experience as a journalist with the Charleston Daily Mail and as a communications specialist for both the West Virginia Conservation Agency and Fairness West Virginia.
The campus community and public are invited to participate in the event. “Constitution Day is always a great opportunity to educate the students and community about important aspects of our Constitution,” Dr. Sally Howard, who chairs the CU Department of Social -Sciences and sponsors Pi Sigma Alpha, said. “We focus on different aspects in different years.”
This year’s focus will be on civil rights and liberties. On Sept. 17, 1787, the delegates to the Constitutional Convention met to sign the document they had created. Concord University encourages all Americans to observe this important milestone in the nation’s history by participating in local events, forums and discussions.
