CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WVDN) – State Treasurer Larry Pack was in Charleston on Wednesday, Aug. 27 to present a more than $20,000 unclaimed property check to the University of Charleston.

“At a time when students are returning to class for the fall semester, it is critical that we deliver these unclaimed property funds to the University of Charleston,” Treasurer Pack said. “I am proud my Office was able to collect these funds to return to the rightful owner. I encourage everyone to search www.WVUnclaimedProperty.gov to see if my Office is holding any money for you or your family.”

Treasurer Pack joined University of Charleston President Dr. Marty Roth on Wednesday afternoon at Riggleman Hall to present the unclaimed property check, valued at $28,784.19, which came from insurance proceeds and miscellaneous checks.

Dr. Roth said the funding will go toward enhancing the student experience at the University of Charleston.

“We’ll be making sure that the money helps students pursue a great education and have a terrific experience while they’re here,” Dr. Roth said. “Every dollar truly makes a difference. We really appreciate the great work that the Treasurer’s Office is doing at making sure that our resources go to the universities or the organizations to which they were intended, and that those monies don’t get lost somewhere or not utilized in a way that the individuals had intended.”

Treasurer Pack recently announced his Office’s Unclaimed Property Division returned $1.8 million to individuals, businesses and organizations in West Virginia during July, the first month of the new fiscal year. More than $40.6 million was returned during Fiscal Year 2025, which was a new record compared to the previous year.

For more information about the unclaimed property program or to find out if the Office is holding any money for you or your family, visit www.WVUnclaimedProperty.gov.
