LEWISBURG, W.Va. (WVDN) – A free, Hollywood-style film premiere event, “Lights, Camera, Liberation!”, an evening of film and action for reproductive freedom, will take place at the Lewis Theatre in Lewisburg on Thursday, September 11. The program will feature the exclusive first showing in West Virginia of the documentary “No One Asked You.”
The event is a fundraiser for the Women’s Health Center of WV (WHC WV) featuring a 50/50 raffle and an auction of some very special items, hosted by the Greenbrier County Democratic Women’s Club. Guests are invited to arrive at 6 p.m. for the pre-show reception, and the film will begin at 7 p.m. Appetizers will be served, and a cash bar will be available.
“No One Asked You” premiered in New York to rave reviews, with Media Impact saying the film is “funny, full of joy and love, and captured what most of the media has missed during this chaotic unraveling of abortion protections in the U.S.—the humanity of the nurses, doctors, and escorts who work at abortion clinics in battleground states.”
While the event is free, it also serves to raise funds for WHC WV, which provides high-quality, non-judgmental, accessible, and affordable reproductive healthcare and harm reduction services available to all West Virginians.
The event marks the third anniversary of the near-total ban on abortion in West Virginia. Since then, WHC WV has expanded its services by launching an LGBTQIA+ health program, harm reduction services, and opening a sister clinic just across the state line in Cumberland, MD, known as the Women’s Health Center of Maryland. WHC MD now provides abortion care and other services in Mountain Maryland, with over half of its patients reportedly traveling from West Virginia.
In keeping with the movie premiere theme, guests are encouraged to wear their best Hollywood glam, and photographers will be on hand to capture the stars. To reserve free tickets for the event, visit WWW.GREENBRIERDEMWOMEN.ORG.
