WHEELING, W.Va. (WVDN) – U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) traveled to Ohio County, W.Va. where she made stops focused on flood recovery efforts in the area.

During the visit, Senator Capito received a briefing from the Wheeling-Ohio Homeland Security and Emergency Management Agency and local officials regarding Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) recovery efforts, toured the Wheeling Armory with Wheeling city officials, and received an update at the FEMA Disaster Recovery Center on progress made when it comes to FEMA assistance and steps the community has taken.

“It was great to be in Ohio County today to receive updates on flood recovery efforts and the deployment of federal resources. I worked closely with President Trump and his administration to ensure our communities received the critical disaster relief resources needed to rebuild and recover from the June flooding. The people of Wheeling and Ohio County are resilient and that was certainly on display today,” Senator Capito said.

Following the June 14-15 flooding, Senator Capito worked diligently to advocate for federal resources to help the community rebuild and recover. On July 22, Senator Capito and members of West Virginia’s Congressional Delegation applauded President Donald Trump’s approval of a Major Disaster Declaration and an Emergency Declaration.

MORE INFORMATION ON DISASTER ASSISTANCE:

The deadline to apply for Individual Assistance is Monday, September 22. For those seeking application or letter assistance from FEMA, it is encouraged to call the FEMA helpline at 800-621-3362 or visit the Disaster Recovery Center.
