CHARLESTON W.Va. (WVDN) – The West Virginia Democratic Party proudly congratulates Selina Vickers on her election to the Democratic National Committee’s Standing Committee on Credentials yesterday at the DNC’s 2025 Summer Meeting in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Selina was elected to represent WV at the DNC national committee woman in June 2024.
Selina’s election is not only a recognition of her leadership but also a testament to her tireless dedication to strengthening the Democratic Party in West Virginia and across the nation. Over the years, Selina has been an indispensable voice for fairness and inclusion, playing a vital role in modernizing our party’s rules to ensure that they are more open, transparent, and welcoming to greater participation from more people.
“Selina’s work has been irreplaceable in shaping a stronger, more democratic party,” said West Virginia Democratic Party Chair Mike Pushkin. “Even before she became a member, she was attending DNC meetings—proof of her deep commitment to building a more transparent and more representative party. Her dedication to broadening access, creating transparency, and ensuring that everyone has a voice reflects the very best values of our party. We are proud to see her take this next step of leadership on the national stage.”
WV Democratic Party Vice Chair Sam Petsonk said, “In order to become electorally relevant to new places and generations, the Democratic Party has had to reorganize its operations a couple times historically to be more accountable to discouraged and disconnected voters. Now is just such a moment, as the Party is undergoing an important reset to better represent and motivate its base and the wider public.
“American families depend on the Democratic Party to deliver solutions that ensure a safe and affordable life.
“Standing in the proud tradition of Fannie Lou Hamer, the Mississippi Democratic Freedom Party and other reformers who came before, Selina and her movement have successfully organized, educated and empowered Democratic National Committee members from West Virginia to Alabama and beyond to focus and deliver on those priorities.
“The new chair, Ken Martin, has helped to incorporate these changes into a diverse and innovative Party that will be increasingly connected and responsive to the concerns of the American people.”
In response to her election, Selina Vickers said, “I am honored to serve on the Standing Committee on Credentials and to represent West Virginia Democrats in this important role. For me, this work has always been about making our party stronger by making it more open, transparent, and inclusive. I look forward to continuing to listen, learn, and help ensure that every Democrat knows that their voice matters.”
Selina’s election to the Standing Committee on Credentials is a reflection of her deep commitment to public service and her dedication to small “d” democracy. Her election ensures that West Virginia continues to have a strong voice in national Democratic affairs.
The West Virginia Democratic Party extends its heartfelt congratulations to Selina Vickers and looks forward to the important work she will continue to do on behalf of our state, our party, and our country.
