CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WVDN) – Today, Governor Patrick Morrisey announced the winning bid of a contract to complete performance evaluations of state agencies. One of the country’s leading accounting and advisory firms, BDO USA, P.C., was selected to conduct independent performance evaluations of the Department of Human Services, Department of Homeland Security, and the Department of Transportation.
The announcement follows promises made by Governor Morrisey to identify ways to make state government more efficient and effective, and make public programs more accountable to the people of West Virginia.
“West Virginians deserve government agencies that operate effectively, and my administration is committed to rooting out all inefficiencies across state government,” said Governor Morrisey. “These performance audits will help identify areas where departments may not be adding maximum value, uncover risks and redundancies, and highlight strengths and weaknesses in organizational structures, procedures, and technology.”
These concurrent audits will assess operations, programs, and activities to ensure they align with West Virginia’s laws and regulations, while identifying opportunities for greater efficiency and effectiveness. The evaluations aim to be completed within six months of the project kickoff, delivering actionable recommendations to improve service delivery.
As part of its review, BDO will review compliance with federal and state laws, inventory services and resources, analyze performance metrics against best practices, and recommend practical measures to modernize technology, streamline operations, and build strategic partnerships.
