BELLE- The Greenbrier West Cavaliers cross-country team hit the course at Riverside High School’s Cornfield Crawl, turning in determined efforts against a strong field on Saturday, August 23.
Junior Jesse Walkup led the way for West, clocking a 21:05.0 to finish just steps ahead of teammate Elijah Russell, a senior, who crossed in 21:10.0. The pair ran together for most of the race, showing grit through the rolling course before closing strong.
Behind them, junior Dominic Mandeville posted a solid 23:09.7, setting a solid foundation for the season. Freshman Gabriel Keaton rounded out the Cavalier lineup, grinding through in 37:40.04. Keaton made sure to point out his biggest takeaway and said, “Hey, I wasn’t last!”
The Cavaliers left Riverside with both confidence and motivation, setting their sights on sharper times as the season pushes forward. The Cavaliers have a little break until they run again on September 9th in Oak Hill at the Oak Hill XC Invitational.
