ATHENS W.Va. (WVDN) — The Athens-Concord Town Social will extend a 37-year summer tradition Sunday, and committee members eagerly invite you to the front lawn at Concord University to Let the Good Times Roar!
The afternoon of fun, food, music, and festivities begins at 1 p.m. Aug. 17, and runs until 4 p.m., coinciding with the beginning of Concord’s Welcome Week, as students move in and dive into the new school year on The Campus Beautiful.
A total of 53 vendors signed up to participate in the social, representing food and artisan offerings, community civic organizations, businesses, school groups, and more.
Concord University’s Student Affairs Officer and Dean of Students Anna Hardy leads the ACTS Committee, and she encourages everyone to bring family and friends out to the event.
“Join neighbors, friends, the Athens community, and Concord University for one of the area’s most cherished summer traditions!” she said.
A highlight of the event is always the awards presented to honor remarkable accomplishments such as total community involvement, good neighbors, business longevity, town beautification, and more. In addition, there are also Town Social scholarships presented. The presentations are scheduled for 2:30 p.m. on Sunday.
The Allen Smith Band and The Pubknockers will entertain the audience during the social.
A relatively new feature that’s proven a big hit is the Town Social Car Show, which will send home honors with awards for Mechanics’ Pick, President’s Pick, and President’s Potential Pick. The last two winners will be chosen by Concord’s new President Dr. Bethany Meighen.
Vermillion Street in Athens is the place to be, Sunday — if the forecast holds true — under the sunshine and among Mountain Lion neighbors, where we’ll all Let the Good Times Roar! See you there!
