MILTON, W.Va. (WVDN) – Governor Patrick Morrisey joined local, state, and federal officials to sign an amendment to the Lower Mud Project Partnership Agreement, also known as the Milton Flood Wall project. The amendment signed today makes land acquisitions easier for the state and the City of Milton, allowing the project to move forward.

“Through a strong partnership between local, state, and federal leaders, we are able to move forward with this long-awaited project for the City of Milton,” said Governor Morrisey. “When mother nature strikes, we have to be ready. Putting our focus into projects like this one will help us mitigate damage, protect local communities, and save lives.”

Representatives from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the City of Milton, and West Virginia’s Federal Delegation were all in attendance for the signing ceremony in Milton.

When completed, the project will include a nearly 8,300-foot levee and floodwall, two new pump stations, a gate closure, and the relocation of nearly 1,000 feet of the Mud River. It will provide a 250-year level of protection for Milton and the surrounding area. Construction is expected to begin in 2028.
