BEAVER, W.Va. (WVDN) – New River Community and Technical College honored 35 students during the Practical Nursing Pinning Ceremony held August 8 at the Raleigh County Campus.

The ceremony celebrated the accomplishments of students who have completed New River CTC’s Practical Nursing program, marking a major step toward becoming Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs).

New River CTC President Dr. Bonny Ball Copenhaver addressed the graduates during the ceremony, commending them on their dedication and perseverance throughout the program.

“We know this journey hasn’t been easy,” Copenhaver said. “We took you away from your families, your jobs, and your routines to complete clinical hours and coursework—but you stayed committed. I also want to thank the families and friends who stood by you. This is a tremendous accomplishment, but it doesn’t have to be the end. Keep going, keep learning, and keep dreaming.”

As part of the ceremony, each student received a nursing pin—a tradition that symbolizes their entrance into the nursing profession and honors the personal sacrifices and clinical experiences that shaped their training. Graduates also stood with faculty to recite the Nightingale Pledge, reaffirming their commitment to compassionate care, ethical practice, and lifelong learning as they prepare to sit for the national licensure exam.

Congratulations to the students recognized at the ceremony: Brooke Ambler, Benjamin Barkley, Crystal Barnett, Alice Blankenship, MacKendra Bleigh, Daniel Bowles, Laura Boyrer, Rachel Brooks, Emilee Canterbury, MacKenzie Clemens, Alivia Clingenpeel, Braylee Craghead, Caitlyn Cruse, Dawn Curry, Rachel Curzon, Tasha Hughes, Marissa Jarrell, Kayleigh Mays, Christy McQuerry, Jasmin Pinson, Ryan Romeo, Miranda Runnion, Timber Scott, MacKenzie Sergeon, Kalyssa Simmons, Kirsten Smith, Grace Steer, Emma Thomas, Kristen Ventress, Abigail Webb, Christina Westfall, Cassidy White, Sarah Williams, Miranda Willis, and Jordan Wright.
