Nellie Bly Coffman Tuckwiller
Nellie Bly Coffman Tuckwiller, 90, of Asbury, WV, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 5, 2025, at the Peyton Hospice House. Born March 7, 1935, in Ronceverte, WV, she was the beloved daughter of the late Harrell and Marie Richeson Coffman.
In addition to her parents, Nellie was preceded in death by her devoted husband, James Robert Tuckwiller Sr.; daughters-in-law, Tina Tuckwiller and Terry Tuckwiller; her siblings, Hallie Bland (Pat), Sara Morris (Roy), Richard Coffman (Sue), John Coffman; and two infant siblings.
A member of the James Chapel United Methodist Church, Nellie was retired from Greenbrier Manor and spent her earlier years working as a telephone operator with C & P Telephone. Nellie embraced farm life wholeheartedly, always ready to lend a hand — whether building fences, cutting firewood, bailing hay, bush hogging, or helping with the cattle. She was never afraid of hard work and took great pride in being a farmer’s wife. Nellie, being the daughter of hearing-impaired parents, was very proficient in sign language.
Affectionately known as Mom and MawMaw Tuck to her family, Nellie was truly a force to be reckoned with. She was tough as nails, when she needed to be, yet gentle and loving in caring for her family. Her presence was a steady source of strength and warmth to all who knew her.
She is survived by her children, Bobby Tuckwiller (Judy), Lynn Poage (David), Gary Tuckwiller (Tia), Dennis Tuckwiller, and Stella Dodrill (Danny); her grandchildren, Katie Kenney (John), Jay Miller (Angee), Jessica Garner (Will), Brent Poage (Cate), Josh Redman, Kayla Hughes, Evan Dodrill (Kristen), Maddie Dodrill, Brandon Tuckwiller (Kaylee), and Brianna Tuckwiller (Richie); thirteen great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.
Nellie’s legacy is one of resilience, love, and unwavering devotion to family and community. She will be deeply missed by all whose lives she touched.
