CHARLESTON- Best Virginia made it all the way to the semifinals (Final 4) of the TBT, but on Thursday, July 31 at the Charleston Coliseum, the fun run that Best V had was stopped by a score of 85-77 from a red-hot Eberlein Drive squad that could not miss when the game was on the line.
The two teams were neck-and-neck with Best Virginia being led by Toby Okani, who had 10 points in the first half, and Isaiah Sanders, a Fairmont State product who knocked in three triples.
The contest went bac-and-forth for most of the second half, but Best V got behind 73-66 until Will Vorhees went on a personal run to bring them closer.
With the game entering the Elam Ending, the score was 77-75, Eberlein Drive. Best Virginia had just gotten a bucket to reach that score and the target score in the final session was set at 85.
That’s when Eberlein Drive’s Gabe York took over. York, a former player for Arizona who spent a brief stint with the NBA’s Indiana Pacers, hit two game-sealing dagger 3s with the game-winner coming off a catch-and-shoot from about 27 feet at the top of the key. York hit tough shots all night and had a game-high 25 points.
James Reese V led Best Virginia with 15 points and Toby Okani had 14. Also, Vorhees and Jarrod West added 10 apiece and Kedrian Johnson had nine.
Best Virginia is now finished and by all indications, will be back on the court in the summer of 2026.
