Roger Allen Wolfe

Roger Allen Wolfe, 76, of Lewisburg, WV, departed this life on July 22, 2025, surrounded by loved ones.

He is predeceased by his parents, Jackson Clark and Imogene Ruth Wolfe; son, Matthew Elliott Wolfe; and daughter, Katherine Ashley Wolfe. He is survived by family members who will miss him dearly including his wife, Colleen Gwyn Wolfe; daughters, Theresa Rae Wolfe and Rebecca Wolfe Smith; sister, Pamela Jean Riddle; and grandchildren, Ethan Adler Wolfe, Emma Claire Quizon, and Spencer Thomas Quizon.

Roger was born on August 25, 1948, in Charleston, WV. He graduated from Dunbar High School and attended West Virginia University. Following graduation, he attended West Virginia University School of Law, where he distinguished himself as an editor of the WVU Law Review.  Roger graduated Order of the Coif in 1973 and began his legal career by clerking for U.S. District Court Judge K.K. Hall.

After his two-year clerkship, Roger joined Jackson, Kelly, Holt & O’Farrell in 1975.  He practiced with Jackson Kelly for the remainder of his career, becoming well known and respected in the legal community for his courtroom skills. He was continually honored as one of West Virginia’s premier labor and employment attorneys for several decades. In 2017, he was inducted as a fellow in the College of Labor and Employment Lawyers, an organization honoring the leading lawyers nationwide in the practice of employment law.  Roger also shared his love of research and legal writing with his students over the years, while serving as an adjunct professor at the WVU College of Law.

Beyond practicing law, Roger was an avid outdoorsman. He shared his love of the outdoors with his family, who cherish memories of spending summers and weekends outdoors with Roger at “the farm”, the family’s property in Roane County. Roger also was an accomplished vocalist, who performed with several vocal groups in the area with his wife, Gwyn, including as a soloist with the West Virginia Symphony Chorus, and member of the Light Opera Guild, Opus, Cantabile, Larry Parsons Chorale, the St. John Episcopal Church Choir, and the Old Stone Presbyterian Church Choir.

Roger was known for his quick wit and mischievous smile. Roger was a kind and gentle soul, who loved his family deeply, including his dogs, “the wolf pack”, who were an ever-present part of his life. Roger was a member of the Old Stone Church in Lewisburg, WV.

A memorial service will be held at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Charleston, WV, at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to The Kanawha Humane Society, 1248 Greenbrier Street, Charleston, WV 25311.
