LEWISBURG W.Va. (WVDN) – On April 15, 2025, the Lewisburg Police Department responded to reports of fraudulent activity at two People’s Bank branches. Initial findings revealed that the individuals involved had targeted multiple banks across the State of West Virginia over the course of several days.
A joint investigation was promptly initiated by Cpl. Jeff Vance of the Lewisburg Police Department and Chief Todd Cole of the Spencer Police Department, after it became evident that crimes had occurred in both jurisdictions. As the investigation progressed, authorities uncovered that the suspects were using stolen identities to fraudulently withdraw large sums of money from various financial institutions.
Further investigation revealed that the suspects had traveled across multiple states over several months, committing a range of financial crimes, including forgery, uttering, identity theft, obtaining money by false pretense, engaging in fraudulent schemes, and conspiracy to commit felony offenses.
As of July 24, 2025, three individuals have been arrested and charged in connection with the case:
- Marianne Murphy of New Jersey
- Fanny Singer of New Jersey
- Michael Earlington of New York
The investigation remains active, with additional suspects and charges anticipated.
This complex, multi-jurisdictional investigation has involved the cooperation of numerous law enforcement agencies, including:
