OAK HILL- From the fourth inning on, Central Greenbrier 11U all-stars scored one run each inning until the game was over.
Unfortunately for CG, their resiliency was too little, too late. Central fell behind early and came up short to Mullens 8-3 in the first round of the state tournament in Oak Hill.
After falling behind 8-0 after three innings, the boys from Greenbrier County started playing. Mason Linsenmeyer doubled on a live drive to center field that scored Garrett Wallington who had walked the at-bat prior.
In the fifth frame, Grayson Knapp singled and he scored later in the inning on an error that was made off the bat of Kaeson Kisner. Central cut the score to 8-2 at that point.
They added their final run in the final inning when Jackson Crane grounded to the pitcher and Carson Simmons came across home plate after an error at first base.
Linsenmeyer grounded out with one runner left on base as Central ran out of time in the comeback attempt.
Simmons, Linsenmeyer, and Knapp each had one hit in the game.
Crane took the loss on the hill and Knapp pitched well in four relief innings and allowed just two hits, no earned runs, and had three strikeouts.
CG will be back on the field on Monday night, July 14 at 7:00 PM. Every game form here forward is an elimination contest.
