Gail Adair McMillion Mauzy
Gail Adair McMillion Mauzy, of Lewisburg, died on July 1st at the age of 77, after a long illness.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John L. McMillion and Anna Erskine McMillion; as well as all of her five brothers, Marshall, Sherman, Glenn, Harold, and Gary.
She is survived by her two sons, Jeffery and Brian Mauzy, and their wives, Kristin and Janine; grandchildren, Alexis, Tate, Megan, Eric, and Gracie; and great-grandson, Lucas; and her beloved cats, Shadow and Snowy.
Gail and her five brothers grew up on a farm outside Lewisburg, where she learned about hard work and gained her lifelong love of sports, before the family moved into a house in town. Growing up in Lewisburg, Gail graduated from Lewisburg High School and went on to play basketball at Greenbrier College for Women. She used her skills learned there to go on to work for 40+ years “in the legal field,” as she loved to say, working for several local attorneys, as well as Legal Aid.
For many years, she was a soprano in the choir at Lewisburg United Methodist Church, from which vantage point she kept an eye on her boys seated always in the front pew. She spent her adult life caring for various family members, including aunts, parents, brothers, and more. She taught her boys to play every sport and went to all their games. She loved the State Fair, especially the harness races and playing games in the carnival, where she is believed to have won the most stuffed animals of all time. She took her grandchildren fishing on the Greenbrier River. She made friends everywhere she went and especially enjoyed spending time with them in her later years, after the boys moved away. Her favorite pastime was watching sports, and she loved the Washington Redskins, the WVU Mountaineers, the Boston Celtics, Atlanta Braves, and numerous NASCAR drivers over the decades.
She will be missed by many.
