HUNTINGTON- After losing game one of the state tournament, Central Greenbrier 10U has ripped off two impressive victories in a row en route to rolling through the loser’s bracket after a 13-0, four-inning win over Logan on Sunday.
CG played an all-around game with a no-hitter from Tucker C, a dandy of a double play turned by Sam S, and team hitting from the top of the lineup to the bottom.
Logan was just overmatched from the get-go as Central Greenbrier put up five runs in the bottom of the first led by RBI singles from Wyatt B (2-run) and Sam S.
Central added three more in the second inning that was capped by a 2-RBI single from Maddix D that scored Tucker C and Colt C. At that point, it was 8-0 and it was clear that CG was all about business on this hot Sunday afternoon.
The defensive play of the game, as stated above, came in the top half of the third when Logan grounded a ball to Wyatt B who threw an advancing runner out at second base where Sam S made the catch. On the catch, Sam was collided with and Logan’s baserunner on third took off to home plate, but Sam jumped up, made a great throw to Beckett M who applied the tag and got the runner out.
That play preserved the shutout as Central scored five additional runs in the third when Barron T got things rolling with a 2-run double to left field that scored Wyatt B and Sam S.
Tucker C’s no-hitter was nice to see. He went the whole four innings and struck out five.
Maddix D (2-2, run, 2 RBIs), Wyatt B (2-2, run, 2 RBIs), and Sam S (2-2, run, RBI) led CG in hitting with identical stat lines. Barron T and Colt C also had two RBIs each and Keenan A and Aiden K scored two runs apiece.
Central Greenbrier is back on the field on Monday night, July 7 for a 7:30 first pitch against Mineral County. Mineral defeated CG on Friday 9-3.
