CHARLESTON W.Va. – Governor Patrick Morrisey announced that state employees in West Virginia will be excused from work on Thursday, July 3, 2025, for an extended weekend to celebrate America’s founding.
“As we approach America’s birthday, I am encouraging West Virginia state employees to spend some additional time with family and friends celebrating what makes our country great,” said Governor Morrisey. “Get outside, visit our beautiful state parks, and enjoy some well-deserved rest and relaxation.”
Governor Morrisey’s announcement applies to public employees of the state of West Virginia and does not affect private businesses, local governments, or other individuals not employed by the state. It also excludes state employees who may be called upon to safeguard the health, safety, and welfare of West Virginia’s citizenry.
