GREENBRIER COUNTY W.Va. (WVDN) – On Tuesday, June 25, the Greenbrier County Commission met in regular session.
The Commission had one bid up for consideration on the 911 Tower Hopkins Knob Mountain generator replacement. The bid was for a 26-kilowatt generator and was for $12,021.48 from Greenbrier Technologies and Electric. The bid will be sent to Emergency Management Director Don Haven for review.
Also up with only one bid was the 911 center main service provider. The bid received was once again from Greenbrier Technologies. The bid came with a significant explanation discussing existing vendors and other things. It was determined that there needs to be a further discussion on this, and after the bid would be sent to the emergency management director, Don Haven, for review.
The Greenbrier Health Department received one bid for landscaping from Riverbend Landscaping in the amount of $86,918.40
Next on the agenda was the 2025-2026 program grants. Grants totalling $$536,664.38 were requested and $388,664.38 was approved. Commission President Lowell Rose said there needs to be an assessment of all ballfields in the county to determine actual need. “According to the requested amounts for field drying mix and marking lime, some are getting a good deal and some are paying ridiculous prices,” Rose said.
It was noted that two grants were not awarded this year.
The Commission then moved on to Greenbrier County board appointments.
The Airport Authority reappointed Jerry Cook to a 5-year term.
The Greenbrier County Economic Development Board reappointed Debbie Parker to a 3-year term.
No action was taken to reappoint Ron McCruder to a 3-year term on the Planning Commission. They are waiting until it can be determined if he wants to be reappointed.
Joanna Kittle was reappointed to a 3-year term on the Planning Commission.
Jack Tuckwiller was reappointed to a 3-year term on the Board of Zoning Appeals at his request. Jan Hoick was also reappointed to a 3-year term on the same board at her request. That still leaves a vacant spot on the board.
PSD #1 Board Member Jim Bowers has been on the board for 33-35 years. Commission President Lowell Rose requested that he remain until a certain project is finished. Rose said it’s important not to make changes at this time.
The retirement of William Honaker from the Greenbrier County Sheriff’s Department was made official. Retirement date June 10, start date was Feb. 12, 2007. Greenbrier County Sheriff Bart Baker stated what an asset he had been since he moved to the sheriff’s department from Ronceverte PD. Honaker served in law enforcement for over 30 years and was honored at a service where he was given a shadow box and his duty pistol.
