GREENBRIER COUNTY W.Va. (WVDN) – In May, the Greenbrier County Schools Foundation awarded Stephen L. Baldwin Memorial Scholarships to 12 Greenbrier County high school seniors. Recipients selected for the $1000 scholarship awards are Rhett Baker, Isaiah Bartenslager, Raina Childers, Rozalynn Humphreys, Cera Lim, Caroline Dotson, Kaelyn Long, Hunter Boothe, Megan Griffith, Abigail Thomas, Preslee Treadway, and Larissa Wickline.
Stephen L. Baldwin served as the Superintendent of Greenbrier County Schools from 1988-2002. This endowed scholarship fund was established in 2005 by the Greenbrier County Schools Foundation (GCSF) with a gift from Mr. Baldwin’s wife, Charlotte. Stephen L. Baldwin Memorial Scholarships are awarded annually to students from Greenbrier East High School and Greenbrier West High School. Since 2006, two hundred eight (208) scholarships have been awarded.
The Greenbrier County Schools Foundation (GCSF) was established through Baldwin’s dedication and vision. This scholarship fund, now managed by the Greenbrier Valley Community Foundation (GVCF), was just one of many meaningful ways that his commitment to education and his impact on the lives of Greenbrier County students were served over the past twenty years. Scholarships previously managed through the GCSF are now managed by the Greater Greenbrier Valley Community Foundation. Gifts to the Stephen L. Baldwin Memorial Scholarship Fund are tax-deductible and made through the GVCF. Individuals and businesses interested in contributing or learning more about the fund are encouraged to contact Tim Holbrook at 304-546-1893.
