RENICK, W.Va. (WVDN) – A Greenbrier County man with a history of domestic violence charges is facing new allegations after deputies say he assaulted and strangled a woman at his residence over the weekend.
According to a criminal complaint filed by the Greenbrier County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy was dispatched around 7:03 p.m. Sunday, June 29 to a reported assault in the Renick area. The victim told dispatchers she had been beaten and strangled by her friend, Tommy Morrison, before escaping on foot.
Deputies made contact with the victim near the intersection of McClung and Germany roads. She appeared visibly distraught and told authorities she had gone to Morrison’s mobile home to help him clean the property to help. The victim said Morrison began accusing her of stealing his heroin, despite her maintaining she has been drug-free for five months.
The victim told deputies that Morrison struck her in the head with his fist and then wrapped a chain around her neck, dragging her throughout the residence. She alleged that Morrison threatened to get a knife from his vehicle and warned he was “not afraid to use it” if she did not reveal where his drugs were.
The victim also stated she was nearly unconscious as Morrison strangled her on a bed before she managed to break free and flee the residence.
According to the complaint, Morrison and the victim were previously in a relationship but remained friends. Court records indicate Morrison has two prior domestic violence cases, including charges of domestic battery and strangulation in 2022 and 2023.
Morrison is facing new charges in connection with the incident. The case remains under investigation by the Greenbrier County Sheriff’s Office.
