LEWISBURG, W.Va. (WVDN) – A Lewisburg man was arrested late Wednesday, June 25 after allegedly assaulting his wife, who told authorities the abuse had occurred multiple times over the past several months.
According to the Greenbrier County Sheriff’s Department, a deputy was called to the courthouse by Magistrate Hanson at approximately 11:14 p.m. on June 25 to process an emergency domestic violence protective order. Hanson noted that the complainant had visible injuries on her face.
The victim told authorities she had been punched by her husband, Steve Withrow, earlier that morning between 3:30 and 4 a.m. She further alleged that similar incidents had occurred approximately nine times in recent months, usually while the couple was asleep, according to the report.
Deputies were told that Withrow blamed the assaults on mental health issues he was experiencing during sleep. He later confirmed to authorities that he had struck his wife but claimed he had not been aware of his actions at the time.
Deputies located Withrow at the Quality Inn in Lewisburg. He was taken into custody without incident and charged with domestic battery. During processing, he reportedly told officers he had been experiencing mental health difficulties and was seeing a doctor. Withrow was transported to Southern Regional Jail to await arraignment. The case remains under investigation.
