LEWISBURG W.Va. (WVDN) — On Flag Day and the U.S. Army’s 250th birthday, more than 600 residents of Greenbrier and surrounding counties joined over six million Americans at 2,100-plus rallies across the country to speak out against the Trump administration in one of the biggest protests in U.S. history.

Organizers stated that the local demonstration was a proud display of patriotism, peaceful, non-violent civic engagement and the right to free speech.

Participants included residents of Greenbrier County and surrounding counties, including Pocahontas, Monroe, Raleigh and Summers.

“Our message was clear,” said a representative of the Greenbrier County Democratic Women’s Club and Greenbrier Valley Indivisible. “This is what democracy looks like. We the people drive policy in America, not the other way around. We’re channeling our fears and our hopes about what’s happening in America into non-violent, peaceful protest. We will not stand by and watch our great country turn into a dictatorship.”

The rally echoed a powerful theme repeated nationwide: “No Kings.” Participants carried signs, shared personal stories, danced and raised their voices to, in their words, defend constitutional rights and oppose any efforts to undermine American democracy.

“We stood up together to remind the nation who runs this country,” organizers said. “Not a dictator. Not a king. It’s us, we the people.”
