WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS W.Va. (WVDN) – Residents of White Sulphur Springs will soon be able to sink their teeth into something new with the re-opening of Mill Creek Homestyle Bakery. With the current owner having suffered a knee injury and unable to operate the bakery, Elizabeth Kirby of The Rolling Dough Co. stepped in to help. “Emily Burns will still be playing a role in the bakery,” says Kirby. “With her knee being messed up, myself and Tyishia Campbell will be running the bakery. We’re in charge of specials and we’ll be doing the baking. Both are partnering with me and we will all be playing a role,” she adds.

On Thursday, June 26, Mill Creek Homestyle Bakery will host a storefront re-opening from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. There will be free cupcakes on hand while supplies last. Having outgrown her home kitchen where she currently operates The Rolling Dough Co., Kirby plans to expand her menu. “We’re excited to serve the community in a bigger way than we are able to right now,” she says. “A lot of my customers are used to pop-ups at the bakery stand and this will be an amplified version of that. We’re really able to offer a lot more in terms of menu items on a larger scale, and with some new items too.”

From masterfully decorated cakes and cupcakes to a quick lunch or cup of coffee, this local eatery has it all. “We will offer Grab ‘n Go lunch items, platters, chicken salad, macaroni salad and we’re also going to be offering Manic Espresso coffee,” Kirby confirms. “As the first local business to offer Manic Espresso in-store, our customers will be able to enjoy their favorite coffee without having to drive to a Manic Espresso location.”

As a self-taught cake artist, Elizabeth Kirby finds inspiration everywhere. “I watch a lot of tutorials, but I’ve never had anyone actually teach me how to do it,” she says. “I also love vintage cookbooks, especially the old church cookbooks. When I see them at yard sales, I get so excited because there’s all kinds of little treasures in those,” Kirby adds with a smile.

Speaking of inspiration, Kirby admits that her customers play a very large role in that area. “I have one customer who has been with me since the beginning,” she says. “Her most recent request was a raspberry vanilla cake inspired by John F. Kennedy’s wedding cake. She asked me to make it for her and after everyone saw the photo that I posted on Facebook, a lot of people messaged me to order one,” Kirby recalls. “It became so popular that it’s now a permanent menu item.”

As this new venture unfolds, Elizabeth Kirby appreciates her customers for not only the inspiration that they provide but also for their support. “I want to extend a thank you to everyone who supports us and has made this possible,” she says. “I couldn’t do this without my new and repeat customers. We couldn’t do any of this without their support and I just want to tell everyone thank you so much for that.”

Mill Creek Homestyle Bakery is located on 200 Pocahontas Trail, Suite 4 in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia. In addition to in-store items, custom orders will be accepted. Store hours are Wednesday by appointment only and 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. The bakery will be closed on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday.

For more information, call 304-956-2131 or 304-646-5531. E-mail correspondence can be sent to Therollingdoughcollc@gmail.com. Until further notice, social media postings and updates for the bakery will be made on Facebook under The Rolling Dough Co.
