CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WVDN) — Former West Virginia Secretary of Economic Development and Lieutenant Governor Mitch Carmichael is the Executive Director of Built for America, a new advocacy initiative launching to urge President Donald J. Trump to “stand strong for the energy tax credits fueling a manufacturing and energy boom across the country and right here in West Virginia.”
Backed by an initial $2 million in advertising over the next three weeks, Built for America is launching a bold effort to keep these “America First” tax incentives in place. The initiative will underscore that these credits are driving investment in advanced manufacturing, critical minerals, and nuclear energy, among other technologies—industries with growing footprints in the Mountain State.
“These tax credits are delivering for the people and industries in rural communities like West Virginia, where we’re seeing massive flows of investment into hydrogen, carbon capture, advanced manufacturing, and critical mineral projects,” said Carmichael. “We are finally seeing opportunity return to our hills. Why would we walk away now?”
Carmichael, a lifelong West Virginian and longtime advocate for pro-growth policies, said the stakes for West Virginia couldn’t be higher.
“These credits aren’t about politics or climate ideology. They are performance-based incentives for building and hiring in America,” Carmichael said. “They are creating jobs where jobs are needed, and they are one of the most effective tools we have for reshoring American industry. Killing them now would stall billions in investment, hurt working families, and cede the race for the future of energy to our adversaries.”
The campaign is targeting Trump allies and influencers with saturation coverage on Fox News, conservative podcasts, Trump-frequented D.C. hangouts, Truth Social, and other platforms. The message: keep the performance-based tax credits that are helping America lead—and letting states like West Virginia rise with it.
