Now that graduations are over, I wanted to address our citizens regarding the upcoming elections that will be held in our communities.
Many of you may not know that there are two parties in our communities that are called The Citizens Party and the Peoples’ Party. These are non-partisan parties because they serve all the citizens, and all-party affiliations serve on our councils.
We are blessed to live in a country where we have the freedom to vote and serve without fear.
Just because people are running unopposed doesn’t mean you don’t have to vote. It is more important than ever to do so. If a community depends on 60% of the vote to pass a levy, they will need all your votes. That’s been one of the main reasons that communities didn’t want to change their election cycles so that they didn’t get lost in a general election.
Serving one’s community is an honor. To make a difference in the lives of its citizens should be first and foremost and not be a self-serving candidate.
One of the best ways to serve your community is to volunteer to serve on a committee or commission of your hometown. Doing so will give you an opportunity to see how your participation helps your community in a positive way.
My hope is that we can engage with more of our younger generation to begin serving their communities. We need them to take the baton and continue the good work that we older community members have begun. I’m excited to see our up-and-coming young people take an interest in what is going on in their community.
Please come out and vote this election season and let your voice be heard! Your vote really does matter!!!
Sincerely, Mayor Beverly White
