LEWISBURG W.Va. (WVDN) – The Greenbrier Valley-Alderson Quilt Guild held a Quilts of Valor (QOV) presentation at the Edgewood Presbyterian Church, Lewisburg on Sunday, June 1. Twelve veterans received beautiful, red, white and blue patriotic quilts and a certificate of valor in recognition of their dedicated military service to the United States of America.
Amber Hinkle offered a prayer of appreciation, support and thanks for all military service personnel. Nan Shetterly and Robin Hatchett made the presentations, assisted by Nadine Wykle and Anne Rapp.
Sheila Maxey, Guild President, took pictures of each veteran with their quilt draped over their shoulders.
Grace Boxwell, Chair of the Guild’s QOV Committee, was thanked for providing oversight in coordinating the construction of the quilts and organizing the presentation ceremony and refreshments. The Guild has 39 members who helped with all aspects of each quilt’s assembly.
Over 60 family members, friends and Guild members attended the event to honor the 12 veterans for their dedication. Statistical information noted nationwide 2,214 quilts were presented in April, 9,398 year-to-date, and 410,759 since the Quilts of Valor Foundation was created in 2003.
The Guild routinely meets at 10 a.m., on the fourth Monday of each month, at Edgewood Presbyterian Church. Organizers said, “We welcome new members.”
