PRINCETON W.Va. (WVDN) — New River Community and Technical College will offer the 90-hour West Virginia Real Estate Pre-License course at its Mercer County Campus beginning August 18, 2025. The course will be held Monday through Wednesday evenings from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. through November 5, providing a convenient opportunity for working adults and aspiring real estate professionals in the region.
The course is designed to prepare students to meet the educational requirements necessary to sit for the West Virginia Real Estate Licensing Exam. It covers key principles of real estate, law, finance, and practice, equipping students with a solid foundation to launch a career in the field.
Instruction will be led by Joyce Barker, a licensed West Virginia Real Estate Instructor and Real Estate Broker with Real Estate and More. Barker brings over 30 years of experience in education and a decade of success in real estate to the classroom.
Instructor Bio: Joyce Barker, a lifelong resident of Princeton, West Virginia, attended Princeton High School, Mountain State University, Bluefield State College, and Marshall University. In 2014, after a distinguished 30-year career in various academic roles, she transitioned into real estate. She now teaches the West Virginia Real Estate Licensure Course at New River Community and Technical College and serves as a Real Estate Broker at Real Estate and More. Joyce’s accolades include Employee of the Year, Board of Education Extra Miler, WV State Delegate for the medical profession, WV Teacher’s Achiever, and Top Real Estate Sales Agent of the Year. Her designations include Licensed WV Real Estate Instructor, Certified Distance Educator Instructor (CDEI), Graduate REALTOR Institute (GRI), Accredited Buyer’s Representative (ABR), and Seller Representative Specialist (SRS). She is also a Certified Professional Tutor, Certified Career Coach, Certified Interior Decorator, and an Accredited Real Estate Home-Staging Professional.
