UNION W.Va. (WVDN) — Union’s favorite tradition, the 70th Annual Farmer’s Day Celebration, is set to roll into Monroe County this weekend, offering two action-packed days of music, events and community festivities on Friday, June 6, and Saturday, June 7. The event, presented by the Union Area Chamber of Commerce, promises fun for all ages.
The celebration kicks off on Friday, June 6, with a Street Dance from 8 to 11 p.m., featuring music by Crawford and Power at Jewell’s Market Parking Lot. Attendees can enjoy dancing under the stars to start the weekend.
Saturday, June 7, will be a full day of activities, beginning with a Christmas Giving Pancake Breakfast from 7:30 to 10 a.m. at the Union Senior Center, benefiting the Fred Walker Memorial Scholarship. Early risers can also participate in the Farmer’s Day 5K, 10K, and Fun Walk, starting at 7:45 a.m. from the Courthouse on Main Street.
The morning continues with Horse Show and Parade Registration at 8 a.m., with equine entries directed to Hinkle Field on Willow Bend Road and all other entries to Mountain View Drive. A Best Dressed Goat Registration is also scheduled for 8:30 a.m. at Hinkle Field. The Monroe County Historical Society Museum will open its doors at 10 a.m., followed by the Royalty and Scholarship Presentations at 10:45 a.m.
The highly anticipated Farmer’s Day Parade, led by the 2025 State Champions JMHS Archery Team as parade marshals, will step off at 11 a.m. from the Monroe County 911 Center, with Kevin Hoke announcing from the main stage. Following the parade, live music by Brett Mahon will take the main stage.
In the afternoon, the Union Pool opens at noon. A Camp Beirne Chapman Cannon Firing is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. on North Main Street near the Confederate Monument. Kids’ amusements, including inflatables, will be available from 1 to 5 p.m. at the Soccer Field by the Pool, sponsored by Union Little League and Union Soccer Club. Another Horse Show will take place at 1 p.m. on Willow Bend Road, sponsored by Southern WV Trail and Show Club and Red Ruby Farm, with registration beginning at 11 a.m. A Horseshoe Tournament, sponsored by Kalico Kitchen, will start at 2 p.m. at the Union Pool.
The Echols Family—Larry and Pam Echols, Andy and Allison Tomlinson, Tully and Tessa, Andrew and Bri Echols, and Azel—will be recognized as this year’s Farmer’s Day Royalty.
The day concludes with the Farmer’s Day Raffle at 7 p.m., featuring music by the Midnight Traffic Band. The raffle offers a grand prize of $10,000, with total prizes valued at over $23,000. Tickets can be purchased online or at participating locations via unionwvareachchamber.com. The drawing time for the raffle will be announced. The celebration will culminate with a Fireworks show at 10 p.m.
