Art Show Winners at White Sulphur Springs Public Library

WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS W.Va. (WVDN) – Main Street White Sulphur Springs held the West Virginia Dandelion Festival Art Show at the White Sulphur Springs Public Library on Friday, May 23. Thirty-two adult entries by seventeen talented artists were displayed in eight categories.  

 The following award winners were announced at the show:

Acrylics: First Place: Marietta Lyall: “Nap Time at Grandma’s”

    Second Place: Marietta Lyall “Golden Boy”

    Third Place: Brenda Lewis “Bright & Beautiful”

Ceramics:  First place: MJ Oref: “Don’t Sept on my Blue Suede Tubes” 

Jewelry: First place: MJ Oref: “Wild Buckeye Cluster”  

Mixed Media: First place: Mellie Hanna “Charleigh”

     Second place: Richard Wiant: “Nightmare”

Oils: First place: John Telisko “Four Mile Fork” 

Second place: Shelby Oreolt: “The River Runs Through It”  

Pastels: First place: Brenda Lewis “Lone Tree”     

Textile:  First place: Roxette Busani: “Purple Mountain Majesty” 

Second Place: Joann Hartzell: “The Storyteller”

Third Place: Joann Hartzell: “Who’s Hungry” 

Water Color: First place: MJ Oref: “Ruby II”

Second place: Shelby Oreolt: “Lilly Beauty”

Third  place: Marietta Lyall: Memories of Sea World

The judges awarded MJ Oref’s “Ruby II” the Best-of-Show ribbon because of her creative composition, crisp colors and artistic decisions.  

The art show accepted 30 applications from juvenile artists in 6th & 7th grades and received entries from several talented budding artists.  First Place and Honorable mentions are listed below.  

L.J. Coleman 1st place in acrylic

Sidney Adams: Honorable mention in acrylics 

Salem Rausenberger: 1st place in drawing with color pencil  

Salem Rausenberger: 1st place in drawing with graphite

Maya Walter: 1st place  juvenile pastels 

Ethan Ewing: 1st place oil pastels

Ethan Wiant: 1st place block printing

Ethan Wiant: 1st place juvenile textiles 

Nevaeh King: 1st place in ceramics

Madison Carrington: Honorable mention in ceramics 

  People choice awards were awarded to Marietta Lyall’s “Golden Boy” and Bryer Callison’s acrylic art work. 

The White Sulphur Springs Public Library and the organizers of The West Virginia Dandelion Festival would like to thank all the sponsors and artists who made this very successful show possible.  These sponsors include The Old White Garden Club, The WSS Liquor Store, Tootsie’s Place and The Lewis Family. They would also like to thank the very dedicated individuals who volunteered their time and energies into making the reception and exhibit a rousing success.
