GREENBRIER COUNTY W.Va. (WVDN) – Greenbrier County Schools (GCS) is proud to announce the success of its recent district-wide Open House, held on Saturday, May 17. The event welcomed over 100 families across multiple campuses. It offered new students and their families a first-hand look at the welcoming student-centered learning environments that define the county’s public school system.

The Open House was designed to provide families with opportunities to tour school facilities, engage with educators and staff, and learn more about the programs that make GCS schools exceptional places to learn and grow.

At Frankford Elementary, Principal Linda King reflected on the day’s enthusiasm, sharing, “Students and their family members displayed enthusiasm as they toured the school, met staff members, and learned about its history. A lovely upcoming 4th-grade student remarked, ‘This is the most upbeat school ever!’ This statement resonated with me, as I am proud to be a part of such a positive and welcoming school staff.”

The atmosphere was equally upbeat at Crichton Elementary. Principal Ashley Spencer said, “Staff, new enrollees, and families had a great time… Students searched for clues and solved riddles to tour the school and meet their teachers.” Title I teacher Stephanie Blankenship added, “Crichton Elementary School feels like home because we love the children like our own!”

White Sulphur Springs Elementary welcomed “Future Falcons” with a scavenger hunt highlighting the school’s diverse learning spaces. Principal Tina Campbell noted, “One future Falcon was excited to visit the music room and play the different types of drums and instruments. Everyone had a great time highlighting all the different ‘Pop’sibilities at White Sulphur Springs Elementary School.”

At Western Greenbrier Middle School, student-led tours gave rising 6th graders an engaging introduction to their new environment. Science teacher Camryn Moore expressed her pride, saying, “Attending the Open House on Saturday really confirmed why I love being part of this school — the warmth, the sense of community, and the genuine care for every student make it such a positive and inspiring place to work and grow.”

Western Greenbrier Middle School also stood out with an energizing welcome: “Western rocked the Open House!” Principal Marsha Podsiadlik and Assistant Principal Lewis McClung greeted families personally, student volunteers led tours, and the school band performed. Teachers created engaging classroom experiences, and the school Prevention Resource Officer (PRO) and his wife generously provided lunch — all contributing to an event filled with smiles and laughter.

The open house spirit extended to Ronceverte Elementary. Staff shared, “We loved opening our doors to new families and showing them the joy we get to experience with our students in a relaxed setting. We will always be excited to welcome families and share the love we have for our school and the Ronceverte community.”

Eastern Greenbrier Middle School (EGMS) families were especially impressed, with one commenting, “This is a nice school, and you offer a lot!” Highlights included science experiments that students could take home, enthusiastic teacher participation, and positive engagement with administrators. “It was exciting for us,” the EGMS team shared, “and beneficial for upcoming 6th-grade students to tour the school, participate in activities, and meet their teachers.”

This successful Open House marks a strong and promising start to the 2025-2026 school year. GCS continues to build a foundation of excellence by fostering a culture where students are engaged, supported, and inspired to thrive.

“Of course, students can register at any time, but open house events such as the countywide event we just hosted provide an excellent opportunity for families to connect with school staff and learn more about the extensive academic and extra-curricular opportunities that make our school system such an exceptional place to learn,” states Superintendent Jeff Bryant.

Greenbrier County Schools looks forward to officially welcoming new students and their families to the new school year when students in grades 1 – 12 return on August 25. Kindergarten begins on September 2, and Pre-K starts on September 4. To learn more about enrolling, visit greenbriercountyschools.org or contact Nancy Hanna at nhanna@k12.wv.us /304-6457-6470.
