CHARLESTON- The Greenbrier East girls track team had their best performance in school history last weekend at Laidley Field in Charleston when they placed third in the state track meet with 76 total points.
East had never finished in the top 5 in the track programs history and the 76 points were the most they had ever scored all-time too.
It was quite a banner day for Annie Whited who won the 400m and was also part of the 4×200 Relay team that added a state title to their resume’ as well. If that wasn’t enough, Whited placed second in the state in the 100m and 200m, just barely missing out on a chance at four state championships. Whited was awarded the high point honor and became just the second Spartan ever to receive it (Andy McClintic).
The rest of the 4×200 relay team who excelled was Kiana McClung, Avery Thompson, and Noelle McClintic.
Neena McClintic added on to the Spartans performance with a second-place finish in the 1600m with a time of 5:04.70. With the duo of McClintic and Whited, who are both underclassmen, it is very likely that the Spartans are not done making history in their respective sport just yet.
On the boys’ side, Nate Suttle showed off his explosive speed in the 100m and 200m runs. He finished third (10.86) in the former and fourth (22.47) in the latter and set new Greenbrier East school records in both.
It is pretty evident that the track teams at Greenbrier East are in a golden age right now with records being broken seemingly every time out. For the season, the girls broke eight of them and the boys shattered two.
East will look to build on even more in the 2026 season.
