GREENBRIER COUNTY W.Va. (WVDN) – Joe Darnell, Greenbrier County Assessor, was recently named President of the Association of WV Assessors for 2025-2026. The AWVA conference was held at Oglebay Conference Center in Wheeling, May 19-22, with assessors and staff from all 55 West Virginia counties attending.
Conference attendees received updates from the recent legislative session, training for the motor vehicle property tax adjustments, updated disability requirements, agritourism/farm property taxes, and other revisions from the WV State Tax Department. The tax department introduced the new SmartFile system that would allow taxpayers to submit filings directly on the tax department portal at no additional cost to counties.
Darnell looks forward to representing Greenbrier County and the AWVA members in the upcoming year.
