CHARLESTON (WVDN) – The Public Service Commission of West Virginia on Thursday approved a proposal for an independent audit of the reliability of electric service provided by Appalachian Power Co. and Wheeling Power Co.
The Commission told the companies, in cooperation with the Commission legal staff, to draft a proposed request for proposals to solicit firms to handle the audit. The final language must be submitted to the Commission within 30 days for Commission approval prior to distribution.
The audit was requested by the companies and the Commission staff, and will be paid for by the two companies.
The audit should focus on six areas of concern: staff levels, company service center facilities, how each utility manages the operations of the distribution system, opportunities for improving accuracy of estimated time of restoration of power to customers, comparison of their systems with others, and recommendations for improvements on a 1-3-year basis and 3-10-year basis.
The findings will be included in a report that will be completed within 180 days of the contract being awarded to the auditing firm.
