WELCH- After a 12-0 shutout win over the Mount View Lady Knights on Monday evening and a cancelation on Tuesday for game two, the Greenbrier West Lady Cavaliers mirrored that first game with another 12-0 victory in game two, won the regional championship, and will head to the state tournament in Charleston next week.
For Greenbrier West, it was their fifth straight shutout and sixth shutout in their last seven games. The one time it wasn’t a zero on the opponents’ board, they allowed one run.
West got going early in Welch on Wednesday.
Brilee Redden, who has been as hot any player in the state lately, doubled to open the contest. A couple batters later, Preslee Treadway got hit by a pitch and Brooklyn Adkins followed with a 2-run double for a 2-0 West lead after one.
The Cavs were scoreless the next two innings, but their bats were picked up by their pitcher, Kyndall Taylor who had a great game.
In the top of the fourth, Broke Patterson led off with a base hit. After she was sacrificed over by Emma Edens, she eventually scored on a wild pitch. Diana Porter’s 2-run single broke the frame open, and the scoring was capped by senior Maddie Fields’ RBI single. After four innings of play, the Cavaliers led 6-0.
Greenbrier West added six more runs in the sixth inning without getting a single hit. They drew walks, reached on errors, and even got on base via a dropped third strike.
But it didn’t matter because when it was all said and done, the Lady Cavaliers punched their ticket to the state tournament.
Fields ended the day 2-4 with a run and two RBIs. She also went over the career 100-RBI milestone in the game. Porter went 1-3 with two runs and two RBIs, and Adkins was 1-3 with a run and two knocked in. Ava Price also went 2-4 with a run scored.
Taylor was phenomenal in the pitcher’s circle. She went the whole six innings, allowed only three hits, and struck out six. She did not walk anyone.
West will wait to find out who they will play next week.
