WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS W.Va. (WVDN) – The White Sulphur Springs City Council held its regular meeting on Monday, May 12. The meeting started with the pledge and roll call. It was noted that a correction is needed on the minutes from the last meeting. Mr. Parker’s name was inadvertently left off.
The financial reports were up next. Among the financial reports mentioned was the excess revenue funds with an amount of $54,872.14. There’s a year-to-date total of $282,722,60. Other funds discussed include the sewer funds, the water funds and the general funds. The comment was made that the Council is on track to have a great year, that they have budgeted correctly and have money remaining at the end of the fiscal year.
Mayor Glover discussed the dilapidated structure successes. Glover said more properties have been added, including 175 Maple Ave., 163 Maple Ave., and 262 Bland Street. The money to fund this will come to an end on the last day of July.
Letters went out for 68 violations. Of those, six were granted extensions, 14 made no attempts at contact, 28 are still in need of contact, 13 have been corrected, and seven are actively trying to correct the problem.
Bids are coming in for the stormwater project through HUD.
The TIFF water project is underway and must be implemented by July, and the Maple Dale water tank TIFF Project is in the design stage at Caldwell.
The four trucks needed for maintenance workers were placed on order and will arrive in the July/August time frame.
Ryan Lockhart spoke of complaints coming in about dogs running around loose. Lockhart said White Sulphur Springs does have a leash law and if someone sees a dog attacking another person, call it in right then. It’s hard to go back and deal with the situation two days later.
Lockhart also advised the public to get building permits. He said if a fence goes over a certain height, a permit is needed, so go ahead and get those permits for any projects.
The city pool will be open soon. It will be open 12-6 daily and for parties Friday, Saturday and Sunday 6-8. The fee has been reduced this year to $5.The city is working on getting electronic payments for the pool.
Nathan Sears spoke to the Council on moving the football field back to its original location. Mayor Glover informed him that it is already in the works and would be moved 10 yards, and a goal post put up.
