BECKLEY- The Greenbrier West Cavaliers boys’ track team was simply dominant in the Class A, Region 3 championship meet on Saturday afternoon and honestly, it’s not surprising since we seem to be in the golden age of Greenbrier County track from the west end to the east as well.

It got to the point where it was difficult to keep up with the victories the Cavs were putting together and between individuals and teams, they had eight first place finishes and won the event for the first time in 11 years.

Randy Keener was the regional champion in discus, Colton Dunbar won the high jump, the 4×800 relay team were victorious, Isaac Agee won the 110 high hurdles (and the 300m hurdles) and set a state record in the process, the 4×200 relay team took first as did the 4×100 team, and the shuttle team won the region as too.

To put it bluntly, Greenbrier West was on another level over the rest of the schools there.  They finished with 172 points and second-place Charleston Catholic had 121.

The Greenbrier West girls’ team, which has just four members– Shy Perkins, Ava Price, Stephanie Rice, and Larissa Wickline– finished a highly respectable fifth with each girl carrying the load in their events and made the day one to cherish for the Cavs for a long time.
