CHARLESTON- After scoring three runs in the first inning Thursday against Sissonville, the Greenbrier East Spartans were feeling pretty good about their chances of staying in the winner’s bracket in the sectional tournament.

However, in a seven-inning game on the road, things can change at any point, and unfortunately for Greenbrier East, the sixth inning did exactly that.

The Spartans held a 5-4 lead going into the bottom half of the sixth, but the Indians erupted for seven runs and celebrated an 11-5 victory and put East in an elimination scenario from here on out.

East got good hitting performances from Brady May and Graham Brewster, however. The former went 3-4 and drove in two runs and the latter was 3-3 with two runs scored and one RBI. Nelson Lynch and Sam Roshau each had an RBI as well.

Eli Green was hit with the loss on the mound.

The Spartans will be back home on Friday, May 16 for a rematch of this past Wednesday night with Independence. East won the first game 7-3 and now both the Spartans and Patriots will be in an elimination game.
