WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS, W.Va. (WVDN) — The town of White Sulphur Springs is gearing up for a weekend of celebration, combining its annual Dandelion Festival with Memorial Day weekend festivities. From May 23-26, the town will be buzzing with activity, offering a diverse array of events for residents and visitors alike.
The Dandelion Festival, a unique celebration of the often-overlooked but surprisingly versatile dandelion, will be a central part of the weekend. Embracing the abundance of dandelions that bloom throughout the region in May, the festival highlights the plant’s culinary, crafting and even medicinal uses. Attendees can expect a wide array of activities centered around this humble flower.
A cornerstone of the Dandelion Festival is the highly anticipated food with various luncheons, dinner and food vendors. Dishes will range from savory delights and hearty favorites to unexpected baked goods. Visitors will have the opportunity to sample these unique culinary creations and perhaps discover a newfound appreciation for this common “weed.”
The festival marketplace will feature craft vendors offering handmade items, often with a natural or sustainable focus. A farmers market will also be present, showcasing fresh local produce, potentially including foraged dandelion greens.
The weekend will be filled with the sounds of live music and various forms of entertainment, creating a festive atmosphere throughout White Sulphur Springs. Educational exhibits will provide fascinating insights into the benefits and uses of dandelions, along with tips for responsible foraging and sustainable living.
For the younger attendees, the Dandelion Festival offers engaging and fun children’s activities, with a kids’ zone. In past years, some local breweries and wineries have even offered dandelion-themed beverages, adding a unique local flavor to the event. A parade will also be a part of the festivities.
Visitors can also browse a variety of local items, which may include jellies, tinctures, soaps and other handcrafted items among many others. Art enthusiasts can expect exhibits showcasing artwork inspired by nature or utilizing natural materials.
