GREENBRIER COUNTY W.Va. (WVDN) – The Greenbrier County Sheriff’s Department released the following statement regarding the discovery of the remains of A.J. Sloan who had been missing since November 2024.
On Saturday, May 6, at approximately 10 a.m. acting on a tip, Sergeant S. Murphy and Trooper H. Ware of the West Virginia State Police responded to a wooded rough terrain area of Nicholas County, just across the border of Greenbrier County. The tip stated that the body of a missing person from Greenbrier County was possibly there. Sergeant Murphy and Trooper Ware began to search the area and located what they believed could be human remains. They then secured the area as a crime scene, and contacted members of the West Virginia State Police Crime Scene Team, the Greenbrier County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Team and the lead investigators for the case.
Both Crime Scene Units responded to the area and processed the scene. The body was recovered and transported to the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Charleston. An autopsy was performed and the remains were verified to be those of Audie Carl Sloan Jr. (AJ). Mr. Sloan had been reported missing since November 26, 2024, from the Crichton area of Greenbrier County. The medical examiner has ruled Mr. Sloan’s death as a homicide. This case is currently under investigation with Captain K. Sawyers of the Greenbrier County Sheriff’s Department, and Corporal J. Gilkerson of the West Virginia State Police as the lead investigators.
