RUPERT- The Greenbrier West Lady Cavaliers entered Tuesday’s sectional opener against Webster County feeling pretty good about themselves and had won seven of their last eight games.
Nothing changed that feeling as the Cavs shut the door on the Lady Highlanders and secured a 21-0 victory, the exact score they beat Webster by back on April 28.
In the meantime, Brilee Redden hit her 200th home run of the season. Okay, so it was her ninth of the year, but she has hit five in the last week-and-a-half. On top of that, the junior star also threw a perfect game in the pitcher’s circle. She pitched all five innings and had 12 strikeouts and is truly on another level than most right now.
West also had three players, including Redden, reach some historic milestones. Redden, Maddie Fields, and Preslee Treadway each went over the 100 career-hit mark while Treadway also picked up her 100th career RBI in the process as well.
West put up four runs in the first inning to set the tone. Redden led off with her home run, Fields tripled two batters later, Treadway got an RBI single, and a sac fly from Kyndall Taylor finished off the onslaught.
They would put up four more runs in the third and in the decisive fourth frame, 13 runs came across home plate for the Cavaliers. The game was beyond over at that point.
Fields put up fours across the board. She was 4-4 at the plate, scored four runs and had four RBIs. Redden went 3-4 with three runs and two RBIs and Treadway was 2-3 with four runs scored and two knocked in. Not to be outdone however, was the supporting cast. Diana Porter was 2-3 with four runs and an RBI, Brooklyn Adkins went 1-2 with two runs and an RBI, and Brooke Patterson had a hot, scored once, and drove in three. Ava Price (1-2, 2 runs, 2 RBIs) also stood out.
West will play this Thursday, May 8 or Friday, May 9 against the winner of Webster County and Richwood, depending on the outcome of their game on Wednesday.
