WEST VIRGINIA (WVDN) – As part of the celebration of Community College Month, New River Community and Technical College is proud to shine a light on students who are transforming their futures through education. One such student is Lisa Cayton, who began her journey in healthcare at age 18 and recently completed the Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) program at New River CTC.
Lisa’s career began in the activity department at a healthcare facility, but she had aspirations to grow. She chose New River CTC because it was well-known and offered the practical training she needed to advance her career without putting her life on hold. “New River helped me achieve the training I needed to get my CNA,” Lisa shared. “Now I’m working at Princeton Healthcare Center and I’m proud of what I’ve accomplished.”
Beyond convenience and affordability, Lisa says New River CTC provided the encouragement and confidence she needed to keep going. “I never thought I would go back to school, but New River made it easy and gave me the push I needed,” she said. Now, with her CNA certification and a newfound sense of purpose, Lisa is continuing her education and considering future opportunities in healthcare.
New River CTC is proud to support students like Lisa every step of the way—from certification to career. Her story reflects the heart of what community colleges offer: opportunity, growth, and a path to a better future.
