New G. M. S. Building Under Way
An administration building and military barracks for Greenbrier Military School will be constructed in Lewisburg this summer at an expenditure approaching $300,000. Old foundations of the building destroyed recently by fire are being taken up and excavations for the new structures have been started.
Evolution
The Governor of Tennessee has just signed the bill prohibiting the teaching of evolution in the schools of the state. A great protest has arisen from the scientific men of the country.
Insanity Cure
Temporary insanity caused by moonshine liquor is being successfully cured, according to reports from Dr. Edward Guion, superintendent of an insane asylum in Atlantic City, NJ. A patient is kept in a bathtub of water for eight or ten hours a day, and a cure is effected in few weeks.

Hat Show
The Greenbrier County Library is planning to have a Hat Show. So we are now hoping that many of the women of Greenbrier County will bring to us many unusual hats with date, price and name of donor. The hats will be carefully packed and the box will not be opened for 20 years.
Boxing Bouts
The Midland-Seneca Post of the American Legion, Lewisburg, will hold a six-bout boxing event in the Legion Hall on Friday night. The event will get underway at 8:30.
Chimpanzee Brainiest
Most American are under the impression that the smartest animal in the world is the dog or the horse. Actually the dog is a moron compared with a racoon. And the horse is a rattle-brained nitwit when compared with an elephant. Scientist have speculated for years about which is the brainiest creature in the animal world. The evidence now indicates that, at least of test made, the chimpanzee heads the class.

Show-Me-Hike Attracts Large Group
One-hundred and twenty-six enthusiastic men, women and children braved a chilly, windy morning, April 26, to participate in the 10th annual “Show-Me-Hike” sponsored by the Old White Garden Club, White Sulphur Springs. About 50 different species of wild plants and flowers were identified by hikers in three groups.
S. Evacuation From Vietnam Almost Complete
The U. S. Defense Department said 4,000 persons had been removed from Saigon. It said operations were almost complete except for removal of Marine guards brought in from a fleet of 50 U. S. ships standing guard in the South China Sea. Those evacuated included 950 Americans; the rest were South Vietnamese.
Alderson School Presents “The Shot Heard Round The World”
“The Shot Heard ‘Round The World,” a play depicting the turmoil between England and the colonies as it was 200 years ago, was presented by the students of the music and social studies classes of Alderson Junior High School. The play, written by the students under the direction of Mrs. William Painter, was a part of the observance of the Patriot’s Day celebration planned by the Alderson Bicentennial Commission.

Judge Refuses To Postpone Start Of Rainbow Murder Trial In Braxton County
Rejecting prosecutor’s’ arguments that they might not be able to assemble all of the state’s witnesses in time, Judge Charles M. Lobban refused to postpone the murder trial of Jacob Beard. Beard, 54, is set to stand trial yet again for the infamous Rainbow Murders, which took place in 1980.
Capital Construction Complete On New Green Bank Telescope
S. Senator C. Byrd and Dr. Rita R. Colwell, director of the National Science Foundation, announced the completion of capital construction on a major new telescope being built in West Virginia. “With the final pieces of West Virginia’s new eye on the universe in place, astronomers will begin the task of testing the world’s largest fully steerable radio telescope,” Byrd said.
Carnegie Stages Pottery Workshop For Students
Hooray for clay! Carnegie Hall recently helped bring arts to life at Lewisburg Elementary School with a Creative Classrooms workshop in pottery. Under the instruction of Diana Hunt, Christian Karrs (left) and Ryan Dodd, both fourth grade students in Mrs. Green’s art class, learn how to make clay pots while exploring science, history and math.
