LEWISBURG W.Va. (WVDN) – President Marit Withrow called the April meeting of the Lewisburg House and Garden club to order in the activity room of Old Stone Presbyterian Church on April 23, 2025. The creed was read, reports were given on projects and on the state convention of the WV Garden Clubs in Flatwoods, W.Va.
Al Emch, President of the Greenbrier Historical Society, made a brief appearance to ask the club members to be docents at the upcoming house and garden tour, which benefits the Greenbrier Historical Society. A sheet was passed around for members to volunteer and a majority of the members in attendance volunteered. The tour is on June 14.
The club members then set to work filling small plastic bags with sunflower seeds and an instruction sheet, which will be distributed to the Ronceverte and Lewisburg elementary schools for the Sunflower Project. About 800 bags were filled. Members of the club will distribute the seeds to the schools and ask the students to plant the seeds and nurture the plants over the summer. Next fall, the students will be asked to bring their sunflowers to school for measuring by the club members. Various prizes are awarded to the student with the largest flower.
