RONCEVERTE W.Va. (WVDN) – A Ronceverte man was caught by law enforcement on April 20 after he allegedly assaulted a woman at a Dollar General store on Thursday, April 17, in violation of a court order stemming from a previous domestic violence arrest.
According to a criminal complaint filed by the West Virginia State Police, officers were dispatched around 6:05 p.m. to the Dollar General located at 2715 Seneca Trail South following reports of a domestic incident inside the store.
The store manager told authorities she witnessed a male and a female engaged in a heated argument that escalated into a physical altercation. The female appeared to have visible facial injuries. The officer reported seeing the male, identified as Alphrin Norman, grab the victim multiple times while yelling at her.
The witness said she called 911 as the confrontation continued. Before officers arrived, another customer entered the store and informed staff that she had witnessed a man punch a woman in the parking lot. The pair then left the scene in a dark-colored Ford SUV, believed to be heading toward Monroe County.
Troopers reviewed surveillance footage from inside the store, which allegedly shows Norman pushing and grabbing the victim near the register in full view of multiple witnesses.
A responding deputy from the Greenbrier County Sheriff’s Office recognized both the victim and the suspect and confirmed that Norman had been arrested on March 21 for a previous domestic assault involving the victim. At the time of his release, Norman was subject to a criminal bail agreement that explicitly prohibited any form of contact with the victim.
Troopers attempted to locate the pair on Thursday night of last week, visiting a residence on Childers Road, but were informed they had not returned home.
Based on witness statements, video evidence and prior legal documentation, authorities believe Norman intentionally violated court orders and physically assaulted the victim, causing visible harm.
As of April 20, Norman was apprehended by law enforcement in Greenbrier County and faces charges of domestic battery, according to the Department of Corrections website.
