Greenbrier High School News -The Prize Story
The winner of the best story entered in the Margaret Prescott Montague Contest which was sponsored by the school newspaper is Miss Lena Hodges. The title is “Our Newspaper Talks.”
Musical Still
A “musical still” was captured this week in Barbour County. Between the boiler and copper coil the slide of a trombone had been attached, while the end of the horn was used as a funnel for pouring mash into the container. No one was playing the instrument when the officers got around.
Built To Last
An auto dealer in Fondulac, Wisconsin, in looking over his sales list found that his first sale of a Ford car was in 1910. He made inquiry and found that his car was still In service. He took the car and without any special overhauling put it on a 100-hour non-stop run, during which it traveled 1,373 miles of town and county roads. It was still in excellent condition at the end of the run. There was nothing fancy about those early cars, but they were built to get there and back.

Civil War Veterans Alive
Forty ancient warriors are completing the final chapter of America’s Civil War. A tally of government and veteran organization rolls gives a total of 17 union bluecoats and 23 of the gray-glad confederates scattered across 24 states.
Million Germans Missing
Two million Germans still are missing five years after the war, and of these only 100,000 are known to be prisoners.
13-Year-Old Girl, Four Years In iron Lung Dies
Nearly four years in an iron lung at the Morris Memorial Hospital for Crippled Children at Milton, this state, ended for 13-year old Beverly Jean Hackett. She was eight years old when stricken by poliomyelitis in 1945, and paralyzed from the neck down. She died without ever being able to breathe naturally as she had hoped.

The Greenbrier Gets Coveted Five Star Award
Mr. John S. Lanahan attended an Awards Dinner at Le Dome of the Four Season in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, at which time Mr. Lanahan, who is President and Managing Director of The Greenbrier, was presented with the coveted Five Star Award from the Mobil Oil Company.
America Is Finished With War
President Ford said America’s involvement in the Vietnam War is over. He told reporters he felt that he was ending an American era. Ford said, “I had mixed emotions. That’s not the way I wished it had ended. But you have to be realistic.
Attitude Of Area Students The Same
The recent series of articles concerning West Virginia University Medical Students indicating that most of the students do not intend to practice medicine in the rural areas of West Virginia does not reflect the attitude of students at the Greenbrier College of Osteopathic Medicine, according to Senator Pat R. Hamilton, D-Fayette. Hamilton said that at his request a poll of the Greenbrier students was conducted and all 35 students stated unequivocally that they intended to practice in rural areas, particularly in southern West Virginia.-

Body Found On Cold Knob Mountain Remains A Mystery
One year ago, the remains of a woman were found on Cold Knob in Greenbrier County, and although investigators have been exhaustively working on the case, her identity has yet to be determined. Senior Trooper T. L Bragg of the West Virginia State Police’s Lewisburg detachment is convinced that if the woman could be identified, then her killer would be caught.
Knight Wins Award From GRWA For Science Project
The Greenbrier River Watershed Association recently awarded Edward Knight, a fifth-grade student from Lewisburg Elementary School its “Watershed Education Award” for his exemplary project, “The Public Water Treatment Process,” during Lewisburg Elementary School’s annual Project Fair.
Mayor Proclaims “Take Our Daughters To Work Day”
