ALDERSON W.Va. (WVDN) – On Thursday, April 17, Greenbrier County Family Support Center held an open house to celebrate their new location in Alderson. The center, which was previously located in Rupert, made the move to accommodate the need for additional space.
“We have grown so much that we needed a bigger space, and now we have eight classrooms and three offices,” says Kyla Baker, newly appointed director of Greenbrier County Family Support Center
What was once the Alderson Elementary School is now home to a very valuable resource for local families. “Our mission is to provide families with vital services and training in the area so that we can build a stronger community,” says Baker. “The open house was a huge success. We had many partnering organizations who came out and set up with valuable resources. We had people from the community come out who were able to meet us and tour our new location,” she adds. “We have a huge walkable campus with a greenhouse and playground.”
The center, which serves families with minor children under 18, has many amenities on-site, including a baby pantry, playroom, activity center, clothing pantry and hygiene pantry. “If you qualify for SNAP benefits or Medicaid, you will qualify for our services,” says Baker. The center also focuses on educating families through informational workshops and autism support groups while offering fun events geared toward building social skills for children, including family craft nights, Hoops & Pizza events, playgroups and more.
When asked if there was a message that she’d like to share with the public, Kyla Baker didn’t hesitate to respond. “We’re happy to serve, and we’re here to help,” she says.
